Mayapan

Description:
Mayapán, was one of the last great regional capitals of the Maya during the Post Classic period. The rise of Mayapán to prominence occured after the demise of Chichen Itzá, some time around 1250 A.D. The city had a population of 12,000 and its buildings occupied 2.4 square miles of land and the core of the town had a protective wall around it.
Of Interest:
Many of the structures are small in size which give the observer an idea of what the structures looked like early in their life before new structures were built over them.
