From spring break to cultural celebrations, there are lots of spring happenings in Cozumel.

  • Spring Break: While neighboring Cancun and Playa del Carmen are well-known for wild spring breaks, Cozumel offers a more tamed version. You’ll still find plenty of parties at local hotels, beach clubs, and bars, but also more family-friendly activities throughout spring break, which occurs from mid-March through early April.
  • Semana Santa: Like many towns across Mexico, you’ll also find Semana Santa, or Holy Week, celebrations happening in Cozumel in the days leading up to Easter.   • El Cedral Festival of Santa Cruz de Saban: A cultural festival commemorating the history of the village of El Cedral and its survivors of the Caste War of the Yucatan, the El Cedral Festival features music, costumes, food, cultural performances, and more. It typically takes place over a two-day period at the end of April.

Summer weather in Cozumel can be hot and humid, with average daily temperatures soaring into the 80s and 90s. It’s also the rainy season and hurricane season, so there can be risks of storms. Weatherwise, early fall in Cozumel is an extension of summer, with warm weather, some rainy days, and average temperatures in the 80s and 90s. But around mid-October, conditions become cooler and drier, temperatures lower into the 70s and 80s, and storm threats end.

Fall in Cozumel is a celebration of the island’s religion, culture, and biodiversity.

  • Fiestas De San Miguel Archangel: A 9-day religious festival honoring San Miguel Arcángel, a Catholic saint. The festival takes place in late September and features daily masses, religious processionals, and nightly fireworks.
  • Cozumel Island Bird Festival: A celebration of birds and biodiversity taking place in October, this festival features educational presentations, birdwatching excursions, and bird-related arts and crafts.
  • Hanal Pixan: Often compared to the Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) festival celebrated in other parts of Mexico, Hanal Pixan, or Food for the Souls, is a 3-day cultural festival unique to the Mayan culture of the Yucatan Peninsula. It is held from October 31st to November 2nd and features traditional foods, cultural performances, and costumed processionals to honor the departed.

  • Dia de la Virgen de Guadalupe: A celebration honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe, an important figure in Mexican culture and the Catholic faith. The celebration takes place on December 12th with a special mass, followed by a processional, music, and food.
