March, April, and May are wonderful months to visit Isla Holbox since temperatures are still quite warm. However, they’re not as oppressively hot as in the summer, for example.

Spring in Holbox is filled with sunny days and beautiful weather, with plenty of hours of sunshine and minimal rain since it’s in the dry season. You’ll find average highs reaching:

- 88F in May
The lows don’t dip too cold, though you may want to bring a sweater for nippy evenings. The wind is also stronger during the spring.

Here are some Spring-specific activities to enjoy on your getaway to Holbox Island!
Take a Catamaran tour
During this optimal climate, we recommend a catamaran tour to enjoy a day (or sunset) on the water. Riviera Maya Catamarans offers both public and private tours to see marine life, like sea turtles or birds, in cenotes like the infamous Passion Island cenote.
Visit a beach club
The stereotype of margaritas and snacks by the beach isn’t really a stereotype. You can live this reality at all of Holbox’s beach clubs — a nice option is the Carolinda Beach Club, which features beach swings, macrame decor, lawn chairs, tacos, and much more.
Spring Events in Holbox
Events aren’t always recurring each year, but here’s one to look out for if you visit Holbox in the spring.
Festival San Telmo
Honoring Holbox’s history as a fishing village, Festival San Telmo sees tons of food stalls offering seafood dishes and festivities at restaurants that seep into the streets. This festival takes place between April 4 and 14.

Summer in Holbox is the beginning of the rainy season, meaning humidity is high, and you’ll find some days of strong rains and winds. However, you won’t find as many tourists during this time since people tend to stay in the US during the summer instead of visiting Mexico during the winter and early spring months.
Summer Weather
Still, the sun shines strong for the many hours of daytime that it’s out. Average temperature highs reach:
- 87.8F in June
- 89.6F in July
- 91.4F in August
Lows don’t dip too cold at all, averaging:
- 77 F in June
- 75.2F in July

These gorgeous pink birds come to play on the Island between April and October. Our favorite spot for them is Punta Mosquito, a sandbar with crystal-clear, turquoise waters and shimmering white sands. It’s a quick 200-peso ride from the Holbox center.
Swim with whale sharks
Whale shark season happens between May and October, making Summer a great time to see them! We highly recommend you opt for a whale shark tour to see them in all of their glory. The Yum Balam Nature Reserve is another hot spot for whale sharks, with some of the largest populations in the country.
