The JOYA experience [meaning ‘Jewel’] is inspired by the fabulous migratory journey of the Monarch butterfly which annually travels away from freezing temperatures in Canada all the way down to Mexico. The simple but profound storyline symbolizes how life is passed on from one generation to the next; perpetuating the love of life. Ride along with the protagonist as she takes a fantastical journey and meets a wealth of whimsical characters!

A stunning gem set in the Mayan Riviera, this is the only permanent Cirque show outside the USA. The theatre was designed and built especially for the show and the storyline draws on elements of Mexico’s vivid cultural history.

Ticket prices, including round trip transportation, start at $97 USD per person. The theater itself is very intimate–ensuring a great view from every seat in the house–with a capacity of accommodating up to 600 people.

TIP:  We recommend getting the dinner package or the drinks + tapas package. The food is just excellent; easily on par with [even rivalling] the exquisite performances. You will NOT be disappointed! Chef Alexis creates delightfully delicious offerings, and the menu itself is edible! Even if you’re not Instagram savvy, you might feel like snapping photos of the food–it’s that beautifully presented.

The entire theater and grounds, including the dinner experience, has been designed to invoke your senses. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be drawn into the wonder of it all. Canoes with costumed performers glide past you on the pools surrounding the building, which resembles a majestic palm tree sprouting up from the ground. As darkness falls, the theatre and waterfall are enrobed in colored light for a magical effect!

Once you enter the theatre, you can enjoy live music before the show while you sip on something refreshing or nibble on savory bites. The show itself is somewhat shorter than other Cirque shows; lasting a little over an hour. After the performance, you won’t want to leave! Extend your evening by posing for pictures with the artists [with fun masks and other Cirque paraphernalia] or have a drink in one of the elegant lounges clustered around the lagoon.

TIP:  DO dress up and DON’T forget your camera! There is no such thing as over-dressing for this event. It makes for a memorable, glamorous night out and is perfect for celebrating special occasions.

Located on the federal highway between the coastal municipalities of Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen, JOYA is about a 25-minute drive south of Cancun. It’s very near the Vidanta [Grand Mayan] Resort and easy to find. Shuttles and taxis from your resort will take you to the theatre, or you can catch an actual Cirque du Soleil shuttle [departures from La Isla Shopping Centre in Cancun’s Hotel Zone]. There is free parking and valet service on-site as well.

TIP:  Feel free to bring the family along! Teens and children alike will enjoy the show, with its fantastic acrobatic manoeuvres and special effects. However, there is no provision for children under 5 to attend.
