TOP COZUMEL HOTEL AND RESORT PICKS
Cozumel is a Caribbean destination where the vast majority of visitors stop in for a just one day, then get back on their large floating city and sail off into the sunset. If you’re planning to stay longer on this beautiful island, a big part of the enjoyment of your trip comes from booking the right accommodations.
In the city of San Miguel and elsewhere on the island, there are many options to choose from when it comes to hotels to book or vacation condos to rent.
If you’re looking to be pampered and have everything taken care of for you, an all-inclusive is the way to go. Plan excursions right from reception or just relax by the pool while servers bring you snacks and drinks.

This is a beautiful, 56-room all-inclusive hotel surrounded by lush jungle-like grounds. When you stay at the Explorean, you have the feeling of being away from it all; it’s a truly peaceful and relaxing tropical environment. The resort offers a wide variety of daily activities or excursions that are included in your package when you book with them. Or just nestle in and make yourself at home at the beach club.
This hotel chain is quite well-known throughout Mexico. The gorgeous, recently-renovated location on Cozumel does not disappoint. Fiesta Americana has much to offer all generations, and is a great option for families. There is a kids club, teens club, and even a movie theater that is a part of the resort. You can enjoy various types of Mexican, Italian, and Asian cuisine at the different restaurants. The hotel also has its own private pier and dock where you can be picked up and dropped off for diving or snorkeling tours.
This is one of six Palace Resorts in the Mayan Riviera (the others are located in Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Isla Mujeres). The Cozumel Palace is a first-rate resort that knows how to take care of guests and show them a magnificent time.
This is also a member of a larger chain of all-inclusive hotels that are set along neighboring shores throughout the Riviera Maya. Iberostar Cozumel is a fantastic stop for all but especially great for divers, due to its location and having its own on-site dive center.
PAY AS YOU GO AND SPECIALTY RESORTS
These resorts are premium quality hotels that give you the choice of merely booking accommodations or bundling activities and services with the nightly rate.
This is a stunning 148-room resort that has very nice rooms with private balconies overlooking the beautiful aqua waters of the Caribbean Sea. Just recently, the hotel has partnered up with the Cozumel Country Club–the only golf course on the island. Golf packages are now offered for guests, along with diving and snorkeling tours to enjoy during your stay.
This is a lovely resort but is not an all-inclusive, so guests must pay as they stay. One of the stand-out features of staying here is the sandy beach and shore snorkeling available exclusively for guests. This is a fantastic option for those traveling with young ones who love being in the water!
TIP: Because of the geography of the island, Cozumel does not have a lot of sandy beaches with good snorkeling right off-shore. However, this hotel is nestled in an excellent location for snorkeling.
This is an awesome little 50-unit hotel that, like the Coral Princess, has teamed up with Cozumel Country Club. If you stay here, you get free golf throughout your stay (a little deceiving because you HAVE TO rent a golf cart which is roughly $40 USD, but still a great deal). This resort has a very small but beautifully peaceful beachfront. There are several deluxe suites if you want to step up the luxury a notch.
SCUBA CLUB COZUMEL
This a no-fluff, no-frills resort. Without any fancy extras, it was built by divers for divers. You get a nice, clean, air-conditioned and spacious room with a private terrace (most having an ocean view). The hotel offers many packages you can choose from, with as much diving as you can handle day and night. There is a fleet of 7 dive boats right on-site, so you can basically roll out of bed and get on board. Unlimited shore diving is available. Meals are also included in your package, so everything is taken care of for you if you choose.
TIP: On the island, there are also plenty of vacation homes, condos and apartments to rent if you prefer to stay longer. This is becoming an increasingly popular option among “snow-birds” flying south for the winter!
Regardless of what your style or desire may be during your stay on Cozumel, you will find the right accommodations to fit your needs. It will be hard to go to wrong with anything you choose, since the island is a natural beauty all on its own.
