Playa del Carmen continues to attract visitors from all over the globe. If you, like many people, work a fast-paced job and lead a fast-paced life, on vacation you no doubt want to kick back, shut your brain off and just relax! It’s nice not to worry about getting groceries, finding places to go eat, or really exert much effort at all.
For that very reason, Playa del Carmen is home to a number of all-inclusive resort. You simply pay one flat fee and everything is included: accommodations, food, drinks, entertainment, waiting service, and the list goes on. The only decisions you might have to make is whether you want to lounge poolside or seaside, or which cocktail you feel like drinking!
Note: Many of the all-inclusives have a dress code for the specialty restaurants [such as long pants and a collared shirt for gentlemen]. Sandals and a t-shirt are not permitted.
Here are a number of the all-inclusive hotels that are located directly in Playa del Carmen, within easy walking distance to shops and restaurants located downtown on famous 5th Avenue.
Listed first are Adults Only Resorts, followed by Family Friendly resorts.

This plush resort has 200 Mexican-styled suites. Each villa comes with its own concierge. There are 6 restaurants, 3 bars, 6 pools, as well as a spa. It’s very elegant and perfect for honeymoons, destination weddings, and anniversaries. Located in the gated community of Playacar, it’s a very short walk or taxi ride to 5th Ave.
This beautiful resort opened in November of 2012 and sits right next to its counterpart Paradisus La Esmerelda [family resort]. La Perla has 394 suites with optional Royal Butler Service if you really want to be pampered! There are 11 restaurants, 10 bars, 24-hour room service, a YHI Spa [a 20,000 square foot spa with wet and dry saunas], 14 massage cabins and a full service beauty salon along with a fitness center. Each suite comes with a deep soak bath tub and rain shower. It’s located on the north end of the city of Playa del Carmen, away from the hubbub of downtown.
Just a few steps away from 5th Ave is this 513-suite luxury resort. It has 8 restaurants, 6 bars, an Olympic-sized swimming pool [as well as a tranquil pool and ocean front pool], spa and fitness center. Live music and nightly entertainment are offered. This is a great choice if you want the all-inclusive treatment but in the heart of Playa–you can explore a bit and enjoy the city too. No other all-inclusive is so well situated. You can stroll around easily and see the best of Playa.

This large resort has 956 Rooms, 8 restaurants (3 buffet restaurants), a 24 hour snack bar along with 9 other bars, and 4 swimming pools. The resort is divided into 3 separate sections: the family section, the select adults only section and the ‘Royal Elite’ section. It is also the northernmost resort of all that are listed here. Sandos Caracol is not within reasonable walking distance of Playa, so you would want to take the short taxi ride to get into town.
The sister resort to Sandos Caracol is this 839-room resort. It has several pools [including a kids pool], 10 restaurants, and 7 bars. It’s great for families, as it offers a Baby Club, Kids Club, and Teen Lounge. There is also an exclusive adults only section [called Select Club]. This is composed of 276 suites located around an adults only pool with swim up bar; with adults-only dining options and other exclusive services. Sandos is the southernmost resort in Playacar; roughly a 20 minute beach walk or through the grounds of Playacar to downtown.
This all-inclusive resort is in Playacar, Phase I, which almost connects with 5th Ave. It’s located beside the ferry dock to Cozumel, so you’re close to all the action! It’s a gorgeous, sleek white and glass building. The majority of its 201 rooms have ocean views and private balconies. Playacar Palace has 3 restaurants and 24-hour room service. There are 3 Bars, 1 beachfront pool, a spa and kids club, and is a very family-friendly resort with lots of activities.
With 510 suites along with several swimming pools [including a kids pool], 14 restaurants, 11 bars, Kids Club, YHI Spa and fitness center, this is luxury resort life for families! It is located right next to Paradisus La Perla, on the northern end of Playa del Carmen. Downtown Playa is about a 30-minute beach walk away, or a short taxi ride, if you want to get out and shop a little.
A part of the chain of Iberostar resorts, Tucan is home to 350 gorgeous rooms. Its grounds have 4 swimming pools [including a children’s pool], 5 bars and 8 restaurants [a steakhouse, along with Mexican, Italian, and Japanese restaurants]. This is a fun resort for families and couples and a great option for beach weddings, romantic honeymoons and anniversaries, etc.
This complex is home to 5 different resorts all within the same locality (Playacar), where some of the bars and restaurants can be shared amongst all guests regardless of which RIU you are staying at.
There are 400 rooms, 6 restaurants (Brazilian, Japanese, Fusion, Mexican, Grill & Steakhouse), 5 Bars along with a 24-hour sports bar, 2 pools including a children’s pool, and spa. This is a well-located, very family friendly resort.
This resort has just undergone renovations and upgrading to its 434 rooms. There are 5 pools [including a children’s pool], 3 bars, 6 restaurants (Fusion, Japanese, a steakhouse, Italian, Mexican), 24-hour room service and a beautiful spa.
The RIU Playacar was totally re-built in 2015. It has 396 rooms, 3 restaurants, 3 bars, 3 pools [including a children’s pool], and spa. It does not sit directly on the oceanfront but all of the beaches at other RIU branches are available for you to enjoy.
Also located just off the water but in the same complex of resorts, Tequila has 664 rooms, 3 pools [including a children’s pool], 4 restaurants and 4 bars. RIU Tequila is also home to the La Piñata Nightclub where you can mingle with guests from all the other RIU resorts.
Lupita is also a few blocks off of the beach but is home to 300 Rooms, 3 Restaurants, 2 Bars, 2 Pools [including one with a kids section], fitness center, as well as a free kids club.
The Reef is comprised of 202 rooms in 18 different villas. There are 4 different categories of rooms to choose from. Along with 4 restaurants and 5 bars, this pretty resort is just a short walk from the Hard Rock golf course and famous pedestrian thoroughfare 5th Avenue.
Located just across the street from The Royal Playa del Carmen, this resort is in a prime spot right in the heart of PDC. You couldn’t find a hotel, let alone all-inclusive resort, in a much better location! It strikes an iconic pose, jutting out into the bay from Constituyentes Street. It’s very picturesque, especially at sunset when the day’s last rays light up the yellow building and contrast with the aqua-blue water beyond. With 287 rooms, 2 swimming pools, 8 restaurants, 7 bars, a kids and teens club, this gorgeous Italian-style resort is good for the whole family.
This is a simple little all-inclusive resort that is located in the section of town referred to as the new 5th Avenue, a trendy district just a short distance from the action. Part of the Reef Resort chain, this location has 202 rooms, along with 4 restaurants, 3 bars, a kids club, and spa.
