The Costa Maya is an area rich in history and replete with Mayan archeological sites and cenotes as well as a beautiful coastline and offshore reef. There is therefore a wealth of activities to be enjoyed when visiting the area.
With a long length of coastline and a reef just a few miles offshore, it is not surprising that water-sports are a popular activity in the Costa Maya. It is a great place to dive, with cheaper options than elsewhere on the peninsular and the chance to dive with few other people around. Other water-based activities include snorkeling, water-skiing, fishing and sailing.
There are about 16 different archeological sites in the Costa Maya but the three most worth visiting are Kohunlich, Dzibanche and Kinichna. If you want to explore all of the sites in one day you can take a tour or hire a car. These archeological zones are far less frequented than others in the Riviera Maya making them perfect for those who prefer to avoid the crowds.
